Katie Pegoraro (she/her)
LCSW
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker serving adults living through transitions and grief. The main populations I work with are young professionals, older adults, anyone living with serious or life-limiting illness and caregivers.
I received my BSW from NCSU (2010) and MSW from UNC (2011) where I focused on topics of aging and end of life. I began my career working for several years as a hospice social worker. Most recently I worked for a private company, offering consultations and education on topics of stress, young professional transitions, mental health, grief, caregiving and serious illness.

Finding the right fit of therapist is so important and I welcome your questions to determine if we will work well together. I utilize a systems approach that fosters a greater understanding of how any concern is intertwined with personal, cultural and institutional factors. I primarily draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and ACT Therapy (pronounced like the word “act”) which are non-pathologizing and evidence based.
Feelings like grief, overwhelm and worry are all perfectly reasonable responses to certain life experiences and environments. You may feel suffering or seek a new direction, but this doesn't mean there is anything inherently wrong with you. I believe in a collaborative approach, partnering to find new ways to connect internally with parts that need to heal and be heard as well externally to the people and communities around you. I look forward to working with you.

Insurance/Fees
I am an in-network provider with Medicare and AETNA, including AETNA EAP an AETNA's State Health Plan as of January 2025. I am an out of network provider for all other insurances but I can provide a superbill for you to file for out of network reimbursement. It is important to understand that if you wish to utilize your insurance coverage, or file a superbill for reimbursement, then I will need to confirm medical necessity and assign a diagnosis utilizing the DSM-5. This diagnosis will become part of your medical history. I will talk with you through the diagnosis I have determined is applicable and will continue to assess the relevant diagnosis and treatment plan throughout our time together.
My fees for visits are: $160 for 60 minute initial visit and assessment. $120 for 50 minute routine sessions, $150 for 60 minute+.

I will always have space for one pro bono client on my caseload. These referrals come by way of non-profits.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit
www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Appointments

I see clients in-person and virtually.

I understand that for some, especially those who are caregivers or live with serious illness, in-person visits may be desired but also come with concerns of viruses like COVID-19 or the flu. I receive routine boosters for both and will be happy to wear a mask during our session if this increases your comfort.

In certain situations, I will make home visits for appointments for no additional charge. These visits will be made on a case-by-case basis for established clients living with or caring for those with advanced illness and for birthing parents in the first two months postpartum. These are times that support is crucial and I wish to remove barriers to accessing support.
